With major construction at every single park and entertainment property (and some of the resorts) at Walt Disney World right now, it can be difficult to figure out what’s going on where. Today we’re taking a walk through Animal Kingdom to let you know what’s going on and how you can expect it to affect your time in the park.
First things first, the Christmas tree is up and as pretty as ever.Â
Inside the park, the nets that were added to the Tree of Life to keep pieces of it from falling off and hitting people in the queue have come down and the tree is back to its photogenic self.
The park has been decorated for Christmas, making it brighter and more festive than it usually is, which is pretty bright.
On Discovery Island, Flame Tree Barbecue is open until January 5 when it will go down for a 3-month expansion and refurbishment slated to end in early April. Given its popularity, some strategic planning for quick dining may be necessary if you’re in Animal Kingdom during the down time.
We stopped into the Nemo stage show to get a few photos of the show. It’s a great family show (not too loud, not to frenzied) and a nice place to have a seat for around half an hour.
The show is great for introducing kids to stage performance and the puppetry is pretty incredible.
Outside, there are walls nearly completely surrounding Discovery Island as seating is installed for the new nighttime show Rivers of Light.
Animal Kingdom is not only adding Avatarland (which commenced vertical construction this week), but is expanding other options to extend the length of operating hours for the park. Rivers of Light looks to be a fantastic show.
Some projects are already finished including the expansion of the Dawa Bar
and the new Harambe Theater area, now home to Festival of the Lion King.
Creature Comforts (merchandise shop) is also slated to close soon for refurbishment and a new restaurant is coming to Animal Kingdom. We’ll keep you updated as details develop.
