Constructing Christmas: The Wilderness Lodge Christmas Tree in Photos

Christmas TreeChristmas at Walt Disney World is planned by a team of Cast Members year-round in a department called Holiday Services. They’re responsible for everything Christmas you see from the tiniest wreath to the tallest tree. Most of the time, you won’t even see them make their holiday magic as they decorate through the late night hours. But what if you could? We watched the Wilderness Lodge Christmas tree being constructed and we’re showing you how Holiday Services brings this giant Christmas icon to life.

Wilderness Lodge Pool Construction Update: Nov. 23, 2014

Update, December 1, 2014: The pool failed to open on Thanksgiving for unclear reasons. Construction is still in progress and the pool remains closed. Reception gives new opening date as December 3.

The pool at Wilderness Lodge is nearly finished! A construction worker on-site says the actual pool will be open on Thanksgiving Day, while the surrounding areas may take a little while longer.

Advance Dining Reservations in the Magic Kingdom: Liberty Tree Tavern

LTT-ExteriorOne of the most interesting things we come across in questions about dining at Walt Disney World are the questions about what the restaurants are like in the Magic Kingdom. Because it’s one of the busiest parks in the world, you’d think that everyone would know what Tony’s Town Square, The Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern, and the Kingdom’s other restaurants offer, but as it turns out, unless you’ve been to one of these restaurants on a prior trip, great information can be hard to come by. So first in the series as we work our way around the Magic Kingdom is Liberty Tree Tavern.

Move it! Shake it! Dance and Play it! Magic Kingdom’s dance party gets an update.

MiSiDaPi-10Since February, 2009, the Move it! Shake it! Celebrate it! Street party has been rocking its way down Main Street, U.S.A., several times a day, its character floats and dancers encircling the hub for a few minutes to have a street party and then moving back down the street to the Car Barn. This Fall, the affectionately titled “MiSiCi” became the Move it! Shake it! Dance and Play it! street party. While there aren’t too many changes from its previous lineup, the changes are good ones. Check out what’s new and what to look forward to!

Wilderness Lodge Pool Update

Check out our latest update.

In late September, Walt Disney World announced that it would be refurbishing Silver Spring Pool at Wilderness Lodge and that the refurbishment period would last through late November. While it was uncertain if major changes were taking place to the actual setup or if it was just repairs that required removal of the pool deck, construction began and is slated to end on November 28. Here’s what’s going on.

This is what the pool looked like previously.

Photo Property of Walt Disney World

Currently, the entirety of the main pool deck has been ripped up.

Pipelines have been replaced and possibly added and while a great deal of concrete has been removed, there appears to be no change to, for instance, a zero entry addition.

The water slide remains in tact and the waterfall is also untouched. The part of the creek that runs past the waterfall is dry and the railings have been removed from the walkway bridge.

The good news is that the upper part of the waterway remains pristine and still looks lovely from the lobby. We’ll keep you posted as changes occur.

How to Get a Dinner Reservation at ‘Ohana: ADR Challenge, Nov. 2014

ADR Challenge: Dinner at ‘Ohana (flexible), 15 days notice: DONE in 8 hours, 1 minute

I’m having visitors later this month and wanted to treat them to the unique flavors and atmosphere of ‘Ohana for our party of 4. I’m hoping that we can get a time that lets us view Wishes well too.

I input this watch at 1:09AM EDT on October 29th.

After doing so, I went to sleep.

I was awoken at 9:10 AM EDT by this satisfactory notice that an ADR had been found:

(While this is a text message, an email was also sent.)

It’s a double bonus because that’s the perfect time for viewing Wishes from ‘Ohana’s beach overlook; just enough time to get seated and settled before the show starts, and don’t have to worry about it interrupting conversation as we get deeper into the meal.

Clicking the link above took me to Disney’s booking page, and before we knew it, the ADR was booked.

No constant refreshing of Disney’s site, no stress about whether or not I’d be able to get this difficult reservation on short notice. In 10 hours, one of the hardest-to-find ADRs was mine.

Since watches continue to search until they’re explicitly disabled by the user or until the last search date has passed, shortly after booking this I got another notice of available reservation:

However, as I was already supremely satisfied with my date and time, I opted to ignore this notification and logged in to disable my search.
