After a fairly short refurbishment and sprucing up, Captain Cook’s has reopened at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The location underwent a complete remodel a relatively short while back, so there aren’t too many changes to note, but a couple of changes answer some questions people had about the remodel.
The layout of the location is the same except for the ordering area. The self-serve ordering screens have been removed and orders are now placed with cast members.
The menu remains mostly unchanged, though we will miss the adult grilled cheese.
And to answer the question on everyone’s mind, no – Dole whip will not return to the Captain Cook’s location. The machine has been removed and a cooler of to-go items placed in the machine’s location.
The restaurant has been refreshed and new light fixtures added.
They’ve also added some very cool travel poster art dedicated to each of the long houses in the resort.
The Great Ceremonial house remains mostly unchanged otherwise, except for the construction that has progressed in the former Wyland Gallery. The new space will be called the Pineapple Lanai and will feature Dole Whip and Dole Whip variations. There will be a service window (seen below) and maybe more. No news yet as to whether it will operate for 24 hours a day like Captain Cook’s, but according to cast members the Dole Whip will no longer be self-serve.
The back of the resort remains closed off and some replanting is happening. Large dumpsters have been placed onto the beach near the Nanea pool.
Guests staying at the resort do have free access to Typhoon Lagoon (or Blizzard Beach when TL is closed for the season) and while there is bus service, if you’re headed out after 2 p.m., it gets a little harder to get where you’re going.
